2017 May Meeting: Temporal Tables

Category : Meeting

Have you ever found yourself wanting to record history of updates of a table? Stuff that you could do by customizing maintenance and writing out to a log file, or querying the journals associated with that file? Or, have you ever found yourself want to query on historical data, such as what was the average hourly rate from a year ago? Or what was the price of this item a year ago? IBM has added some wonderful capabilities with IBM i 7.3 with their Temporal Table support. You can set this up without adding or modifying a line of code. And, you can often do it without interrupting existing applications.

Rob Berendt has been with Group Dekko for 30 years. He helps to administer their 15 lpars of IBM i (all running IBM i 7.3), 2 lpars of AIX, and 6 lpars of VIOS spread out over 3 Power 8’s. With his extensive history of upgrading IBM i, working with Domino, assisting with security audits, and more he brings a lot of experience to the table.
